On Tuesday, Sept. 12th, 2017 outside of the Little Caesars Arena in Downtown Detroit in the Grand Circus Park area hundreds of protesters gathered. The protest involved about 200 Hundred people, mostly African Americans, who marched the length of 5 blocks to protest recording artist, Kid Rock being named the opening act at the Little Caesars Arena. They were also protesting issues such as the partial funding of the stadium coming from Detroit Tax Payers dollars, Kid Rock’s past usage of the Confederate Battle Flag in his concert performances and the fact that there are no African American owned businesses housed in the new arena but Kid Rock has a restaurant.
The protest was organized by members of the Detroit Chapter of The National Action Network (NAN) including local President, Rev. Charles Williams II and Sam Riddle who is the Political Director of the Detroit Chapter of (NAN). Read more here
As far as I’m concerned, the next logical step is to have a Nationwide Economic Boycott of Little Caesars Pizza which is owned by the Illitch family who also owns Little Caesars Arena. It’s time to Redistribute The Pain with Economic Withdrawal. I am all for mass protest and Marches. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was correct when in his last speech, April 3rd, 1968 he said “We have to always anchor our external direct action with the Power of Economic Withdrawal”.
Whenever we have these marches, at the end of the march, we have to March ourselves down to African American owned businesses and buy them out.
The 2nd logical step is to make sure people vote in the Mayoral Election in November 2017 and VOTE MIKE DUGGAN OUT OF OFFICE.
The 3rd logical step is to correct the educational curriculum across the country because most people have purposely been miseducated when it comes to history. There is currently a Democratic Bill in the Michigan State Legislature to teach African American history in every public school in the State of Michigan. One of the lead sponsors of the bill is Rep. Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, D-Detroit. She said:
“We all have to do a better job of getting to know each other and understand each other.” She went to say, “But it starts in our schools in educating children properly so they’re able to push back when they hear lies pushed forward about different races of people.”
